Basic equipment

Some of the basic equipment needed for the KG is K98 rifle, helmet, belt, belt buckle, bread bag, gas mask canister, suspenders, ammo pouches (2), shovel and holder, bayonet and frog, zeltbahn, canteen and cup, assault Pack, zeltbahn pole, stake and rope. Everyone in the unit must own a minimal of one K98 rifle, but any other period correct weapon used by the Wehrmacht that is correct for your impression is allowed. Remember, we portray the average German solider, the norm not the exception. Please ask your "alte hase" for a copy of the unit handbook that contains the complete list and authenticity standards of all the required and optional equipment and uniforms. A lot of members have loaner equipment that can be borrowed until you can piece together your impression. NCOs and Officers are elected every two years. Everyone starting off in the unit is a Grenadier, SS Man etc. Promotions are up to your NCO. You may wear any rank at public events according to your impression but at KGvR events only authorized rank and awards are allowed.
